What’s even more insulting to Smithing is from Levels 64 to 83 Crafting, you can create Level 40 through to Level 70 Dragonhide Armour, whereas with Smithing at level 83 you can make Adamantite Claws, requiring Level 30 Attack.įletching and Crafting can both make Ranged weaponry and Armour up to Ranged Level 70, while the best you can do with Smithing is Rune equipment requiring an Attack and Defence Level 40, and this just feels bad. By comparison, the Level Defence 40 Platebody equivalent is Rune, which requires Level 99 Smithing to make. You can’t make a full set of Mithril Armour until Level 68 Smithing.Īt this point, it’s worth comparing to other skills, and you’ll see very quickly just how far behind Smithing is compared to Crafting and Fletching.Īt Level 65 Fletching, you can create a Yew Shortbow, requiring Level 40 Ranged.Īt Level 63 Crafting, you can create a full set of Green D’Hide Armour, requiring 40 Ranged and 40 Defence. This misalignment only becomes increasingly more dramatic.īy the time you get to level 65 Smithing, the best you can make is a Mithril Two-Handed Sword and a Mithril Kiteshield, which requires Level 20 Attack and Defence respectively. You’ll very soon have 20 Attack and would prefer to use a Mithril Weapon, which requires at least level 50 Smithing. By the time you reach level 30 Smithing, you can make a steel dagger, which requires level 5 Attack to use.īut the time it takes to reach level 5 Attack is drastically shorter then the time it takes to reach level 30 Smithing. By the time you reach level 20 Smithing, you can make an iron scimitar which requires only level 1 Attack to use. The glaring issues with Smithing become apparent very quickly as it is trained. However, even with the creation of a new minigame to train the skill, the main problem remains that the Smithing skill itself is unrewarding to train, with the core problem being that the progression of Smithing is completely out of alignment with the progression of a character. With the recent proposal of the Giants’ Foundry minigame, attention is drawn to the Smithing Skill. There is a TL DR at the bottom of the document.
